Juli
Juli Spendley, Biography

Juli is married with three daughters and two grandaughters. She has one brother and two step-brothers and lives in Dorset.

In the 1980s she trained as a nurse in London and when she started her family she did her Diploma in Health Visiting, as this was of great interest to her and the hours  fitted in more with family life.

Juli carried out research into eating habits and weaning practices, whilst health visiting, and was encouraged to take her BA Hons in Health Studies, which she completed in 1994.

She decided to go into teaching when she moved to Dorset, as this had always been a key element of her previous roles, she therefore accepted a position at the Bournemouth & Poole College of Further Education in 1994.

Juli has always had a passion for education and adores working with young people who have their whole lives ahead.

As part of her role, Juli has been a personal tutor, a lead tutor, an advanced practitioner, and has taught subjects relating to health, nursing and childhood studies.

Juli later developed an interest in parenting programmes and in conjunction with one of her colleagues, authored two programmes:

  • The Certificate in Effective Parenting

and

  • The Programme for Parents, which initially attracted European funding.

Juli found it a big, but rewarding, challenge working with teenage parents and went onto study her Masters in Health Promotion and Health Education.

Her dissertation was a Study of Breakfast Routines amongst the students at the College, which has now been published by Lambert Publishing. (Indeed this will be available for purchase very shortly.)

Juli loves sport and is a keen tennis player. Her husband, Clive, has been captain of a local cricket club for several years and Juli has been involved both as secretary and treasurer.

Juli loves to entertain and travel, and has seen many parts of the world. She has raised money for the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths and Action Medical Research and completed four treks in Patagonia, Vietnam, Peru and Costa Rica.

Juli adores her family and spends as much time as possible with them. She values her friends greatly, has kept in touch with many friends from school, and has a strong social network of family and friends.
